Why should my
company do background checks?
|
| |
This is the single most
often asked question. Pre-screening or background
checks are necessary to make sure that you, the
employer, make the right decision for your business.
Employers may face liability issues if the court
determines that the employer "knew or should have known"
negative facts of an employee's background that should
have disqualified that employee from having the job.

The Fair Credit Reporting
Act ensures protection of an individual's privacy
rights, and to insure the accuracy of information
reported. Employment Profile is considered a "Consumer
Reporting Agency" under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
The FCRA imposes statutory and regulatory safeguards on
"Consumer Reporting Agencies", the users, and providers
of the information to insure the accuracy of information
provided and offer recourse to the individual if the
information is inaccurate. Employment Profile
operates in full compliance with the Fair Credit
Reporting Act. |

Is there a
national criminal index?
|
| |
Contrary to popular
belief, there is no national criminal index assessable
to employers or the public. Only law enforcement
has access to the NCIC. It is for this reason that
criminal record checks are performed county by county,
and statewide. Multi jurisdictional searches are
also available utilizing criminal record databases which
currently includes data from 36 different states. |

Why do a Social
Security Number trace?
|
| |
This search verifies that
the Social Security Number given by the applicant is in
fact registered to the applicant, verifies the current
address, and offers former addresses as well. This
search helps identify former addresses so criminal
records can be searched in all jurisdictions that the
applicant has resided in. |

Why should a
company outsource for pre-employment background checks?
|
| |
Small to large companies
have learned that pre-employment screening is a time
consuming task that requires knowledge and resources
that their Human Resource Departments do not normally
have access to. Let Employment Profile handle this
task, utilizing our knowledge and resources to insure
the most timely and accurate information. |

Why must I have
written authorization from the applicant?
|
| |
To be in full compliance
with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, all prospective
employees must submit an authorized background
verification disclosure, and simply stated, “it's the
law.” There must be a permissible purpose to
perform the background check, and the signed disclosure
identifies to the applicant their rights through the
FCRA. |
